The Fall of Man

Genesis 2:9 (New International Version)

9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:17 (New International Version)

17 “but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”

Genesis 3:1 – 5, 22, 23 (New International Version)

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”

4 “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

22 And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.

The tree of knowledge that the first man and woman ate off brought all people from the first to the last in to a mind / soul pursuit of knowledge.

Seeking to know as God our creator knows.

Adam and Eve embarked on a pursuit of knowledge and they passed this pursuit on to all their descendents. Why this pursuit to know? They wanted to know as God knows. Why know as God knows? They wanted to be like God. Why be like God? They were jealous that God had something that they did not have they wanted what God had.

People are generally like that we want what others have.

We are naughty children we are always wanting and humans in wanting go to war to get what they want. The original sin is the fall of Adam and Eve.

The fall was wanting to know as God knows.

Why do people always want? Why can not people be content with just having their needs met? Evil was lurking around at the beginning of creation. Evil tempted Eve. So sin was in the garden at the beginning it was exposed by the snake. Sin was in the heart of Eve. It was also in the heart of Adam. Satan was evil and he loves sin. Eve when she was tempted by Satan could just as have said: “Be gone snake”. She also while been tempted could have called out for God to help her. No she did not. She thought evilly and such thoughts were exposed by Satan. The evil thoughts Eve had manifested themselves in action. Adam went along with these evil thoughts Adam was also a sinner. Was Adam and Eve created with good and bad in them? Makes one think “Does God have any bad in Him”? But we know God as been all good. Was there evil before God came along? What was there before God came along? Where was God before He came along? Before the universe was created what existed before? Did evil exist before God created the universe? Has evil and good always existed? God been good – will He eventually destroy all evil. We must be optimists and believe in a good God who overcomes all evil.

Authority is the person or persons in charge. People rebel against authority. Why? People want to be the authority. Everyone wants to be in charge and give the orders rather than take the orders. Eve may have seen a chance for her and Adam to come out from under the authority of God. Knowledge as the saying goes is power [Adam and Eve wanted this knowledge and the power]. This power was used as a worldly power it is not power used in God’s kingdom it is a power used in the world associated with money and all things of this world. In other words God’s power was and is abused. People love this power. So we get an anomaly – people think they are clever to know as God knows. It is not clever and it is one of mankind’s stupidest mistakes. But mankind is none the wiser because of Satan’s ongoing deception. But why would Eve think such thoughts? God set up a situation where He made it possible for mankind to sin in the beginning. This was a test and mankind failed the test. The test was to see if Adam and Eve were faithful and loyal to him. They were not. Mankind has continued to pursue knowledge and knowledge is about work and money and power. Mankind ever working always tired pursuing work and never coming to a blessed full time rest. Mankind in his ceaseless toil he works himself to the grave fulfilling the curse God put on him.

God [about 2000 years ago] had sympathy for mankind and so sent his dearly beloved Son Jesus Christ to set mankind free from the curse of his working himself to the grave. The curse on mankind was lifted and Jesus became the curse instead. Jesus took the curse to death. The curse died in Jesus on the cross at Calvary. Satan had power over the curse while the curse was still alive. With Jesus’ death the powers over all sin lost their power. All sin dies with Jesus on the cross. We as individual Christians have partaken in the death and resurrection and raised Christ. All evil powers have also lost their power over us because our sins and generational [Ancestral sins – sins from our forebears] sins have died. Christians are new persons in their release from sin and the power over sin. We can rest from our labours and regain the life that Adam and Eve had before they ate of the tree of knowledge. We can live a life of simplicity and love always communing with God. Satan does not have a hold over us. We are free. We now can eat of the Tree of Life. Life comes through Jesus Christ. Follow Jesus’ teachings. Not follow teachings that man has swallowed for so long teachings that are fraught with man’s own wisdom and attached to money and status and worldly power. Jesus’ kingdom is within Satan’s kingdom is of this world.

Christians need to live a life of community. We see in the book of Acts [Bible] how the first Christians shared their worldly possessions with each other. Everyone worked together making life sustainable for the whole group. No one went without. The Church today needs to get back in to Christians helping each other. The church has lost its Godly focus to focus on money, human achievement, status, position and worldly power. Church should be like the first church we should be a people sharing we are not just individuals we are a community; church should not be about worldly stuff we are in spirit we gave up the flesh the old flesh person to be in spirit and to mature and grow and learn in spirit. Church should not be about getting what we want or achieving what we want church should be about helping and sharing and giving. The church leadership are the ones that need to steer the ship [church] and the steering seems to be at times going on to the rocks the rocks of the god mammon. Church should not be about money but about God and people. The church has for so long forsaken what the first vision of the church was that there is no chance for the first vision to be resurrected. The only way for the first vision to be realised again is for the church to go through a great and terrible tribulation. Such tribulation sorts the true from the false.

Epilogue

Knowledge is power.

Power corrupts.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

So knowledge corrupts.

Knowledge is not evil in itself. It can not be because God is all knowledgeable. God is not evil. So we have all this knowledge that is not evil but is not meant for mankind. Has God changed his mind about mankind having knowledge? Why should he? Knowledge is still that it makes us know as God knows and to us that is power. But power corrupts. The knowledge is in mortal human bodies. Our bodies are flesh and all human flesh is corrupt. Flesh dies so it is corrupt. The Father God is invisible so His knowledge does not corrupt Him. The Father God does not have human physical flesh to corrupt Him. Jesus in His risen state is now in an immortal body an incorruptible body.

What is our mission in this life? To prepare for the next life. The wise person prepares for heaven and the foolish person prepares for hell.

Kind regards; Lester John Murray.
